THE PATCHWORK COMPANION
A guide to building key piecing skills and understanding color through 14 quilt projects
Have you ever felt like you were doing everything right, but still unsure why it wasn’t working?
You spend hours watching tutorials, trying to learn something new. You follow the steps, but the results don’t feel the way you hoped they would.
I’ve been there too.
The Patchwork Companion grew out of that exact experience. Wanting more than tips and demonstrations. Wanting to understand what actually matters, not just how to copy a process.
Rather than collecting techniques from many places, this book offers a steady, connected approach. It brings foundational piecing skills and color understanding together in one place, so learning feels clearer and more supportive.
What this book is
The Patchwork Companion is not just a pattern book. It is a guide focused on building strong foundations in piecing and color, supported by quilt projects that help you practice as you learn.
The emphasis is not on rushing through instructions. It is on slowing down, building confidence, and understanding your work as you make it.

Why I wrote this book
This book grew out of my own experience as a quilter who wanted to understand more than just the steps.
Over the years, through many quilts and many experiments, I found myself asking the same questions again and again. Why does this work. Why does this not. Why do some quilts feel easier to make than others, even when the instructions look similar.
I wanted to create the kind of resource I wish I had when I was learning. Something that goes beyond demonstrations and helps explain what actually matters, so quilters can feel more confident in their choices.
The Patchwork Companion is meant to support that kind of understanding. A steady reference you can return to whenever you feel uncertain or curious.
How readers use this book
This book is meant to be used over time. Many readers find themselves returning to it before starting a project, to ground themselves in the basics. They come back mid-project when something does not feel quite right, and again between projects to reflect and build confidence. It is designed to live near your sewing space, not on a shelf.
What you will find inside
Inside the book, you will find:
Guidance on foundational piecing skills
An approachable introduction to color theory for quilters
14 quilt project patterns, including three smaller projects
Visual examples that support the skills and ideas throughout the book
The projects are designed to reinforce learning, not just to be completed and set aside.
Who this book is for
This book is for you if:
You want to strengthen your piecing skills, not just follow steps
You have finished quilts but still feel unsure about your choices
You are curious about color and want it explained clearly and practically
You value understanding over speed
This book may not be for you if:
You only want quick, step by step patterns
You are looking for trend driven projects
You prefer minimal explanation
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the book. I hope it becomes a steady, useful companion in your making.
